He was actually being nice - better than telling you you're lazy for not washing your own dog!
He was trying to save you money. Well, I guess he could have been trying to save you money. I obviously don't know the tone of what he said to you, so I can't really make a determination. He may be a rude and unkind individual. And nosy, too.
He may be a good groomer with bad people skills?
I groomed plenty of shorthaired dogs on regular schedules. It kept them clean and less hair at the house. Plus grooming is nails and ears and anal glands not just a bath or clip. Or at least it should be.
WOW! What a rude thing to say to a paying customer. Its not like you're rolling your dog in the dirt and abusing it and then having someone say "why do you do that?" but CLEANING your dog for heavens sake!! You can do whatever you want regardless of how long or short the dogs fur is. tell him you don't appreciate him verbally attacking you like that and to mind his own d*mn business!
Short haired mixed breeds need grooming too. A groomer should know that. Just because he doesn't need a major haircut doesn't mean he doesn't need a good bath and brush-out, nail trimming and ear cleaning.
A lot of people would rather pay the groomer than struggle with the dog and have a mess in the bathroom to clean.
He might have been just trying to let you know that with that breed you don't need to have your dog groomed. But I do agree if you want it, what's the problem, he's there for a service and getting paid for it. He should be happy that you are providing business for him and that you are taking very good care of your dog. It shows you care about your dog! Good for you!
