Abandoned puppies about 4 weeks old...trying to bottle feed. Not working! Help!?

My next door nieghbors abandoned thier house and two adult dogs and two puppies. The mother of the puppies is nowhere to be found. They are about 4 weeks old and I have talked to vets and have a nesting bed for them and I got some Esbilac Puppy formula for them. They are already eating mushed up puppy food soaked in the puppy formula. They eat the food like crazy about 3 times a day. However.I have tried the nursing bottle from the pet store and all they do is chew on it and lick it. I have tried a syringe but all they do is drink a lil then let it run out of thier mouths. I have also even bought a baby nurser bottle to see if that would work and they don't like that either! They are in good shape and sleep and play. They eat the mushy solids very well just dont know what to do with the formula! I know they have to have this at least until 6 weeks of age. They love the taste of the formula...just not getting the hang of drinking from the different bottlesor syringe.I am so worried!

oh no need to worry. What u can do is if they are eatting the food from the bowl, and chewing the nipple or dropper. Don't panic just simply put the formula in a bowl and show the puppies where to drink. They will lick it all up. But being 4 weeks old doing formula and food, watch out for diarreah. My puppies did that and they got the runs. Also try not to feed it to them by its self all day long. Just simply put a lil in the bowl 1 or 2 a day and they will be ok. Also i think you should call your local A.S.P.C.A. so crulety charges can be brought against ya neighbors after u try to locate them and talk it over with them.
they dont need the formula if they eat the normal food!
if they are eating the food fine..then they will be ok. If you want to mix it then thats ok too. I would do it the way you are to make sure they are getting all they need minus the bootle feed that isn't working anyway.
Try giving them human baby food - the dry mis stuff, Pablum - mixed with the puppy formula instead of milk or water. If they like that it should be good enough.
Maybe they need a bigger hole in the nipple. They might not be getting enough at one time. Try enlarging it.
I'm pretty sure that you'll be okay with mixing the formula with the food. My little dog had five puppies and ended up getting eclampsia (a calcium deficiency), so I had to keep her puppies away from her. I also had a hard time getting them to drink from the bottles, so I mixed the formula with some puppy food. The puppies are still really healthy. =)
Usually by this time the mother is trying to ween (wean) her babies. If they`re eating ok the way you`re teaching them then go with it, the bottle thing already seems unecessary to them. You`re their mother figure now. But remember, just because their animals doesn~t mean when or if your tired of the job to stop taking care of them as much as you are now. They depend on you souly now. Only you know how far they have advanced.water is the next step you`ll know what to do just do it they`re like babies, they need to be taught and guided.
MYSELF HAD 11 PUPPIES AND IT WAS WHERRY HARD TO LOOK AFTER THEM,BUT ON THE END I DID IT.TRY TO MIX THE PUPPY FORMULA IN THE DRINKING WAT HER AND THEY WELL DRINK THE WAT HER AND THE SAME TIME THE FORMULA TO. I WISH YOU A LOT OF LACK.
It sounds like you puppies are doing just fine. What does your vet say? They probably don't need the nursing bottle or a syringe. The main thing is to get adequate puppy-formula food into them, and it sounds as if they're doing great! I wouldn't worry about the bottles or syringe as long as the pups are getting enough food. Sometimes the pups know best!! At least this has been my experience.
they don't need to be fed from bottle at this age; if they are eating and drinking; continue that path; Mom would have started to wean them at this point anyway; if they eat and drink on their own they don't need to be syringe formula. That is exactly what they are trying to tell you by not joining in for syringe feedings; they have better success at the dish and that is all they need
