Any dog rescues in the area (46526) that might help defray the cost of ACL surgery, for low income family dog?

We are on SSI, our dog ( 90lb American Bulldog) (not a pitt bull) tore her ACL over 6wks ago. Surgery is close to $1300, vet says if we can't do surgery, we should think of putting her down, she's only 3, any help would be appericated--maybe someone knows about some alt. treatments besides surgery. (physical therapy--range of motion exercises) We don't want to put her down, but we want her to have good life quality, too.

thanks for reading this.

I'm sorry to hear this.we have a large dog who had to have both rear legs done...total of three surgeries. They tend to do their own physical therapy but we also used acupuncture while waiting in between surgeries. acupuncture is just getting started in most places for dogs and it might be worth your while to draft a letter with pics and vet references etc to any practitioners in your area. You may be able to negotiate some therapy for less or offer to participate in testimonials etc. Also, contact your state vet college...the students who answer the phone there for advice can tell you about any groups etc that offer financial help. best of luck to you.

Go to their website and contact them, either through the site or through the forum. They're a site providing sponsorship for pets in need.
Look for holistic vets. They sometimes will work on a sliding scale or just give you advice for free.
You can massage, very gently, the injured area, move it but not till it causes her pain.. Be sure she keeps mobile and just love her. She will appreciate the attention and happiness is a key factor in recovery for anyone 2 or 4 footed.
Good Luck
