Amish dog breeders?

I recently moved to NJ and I am looking to buy a puppy. Most people tell me they got their dog from an Amish breeder closeby in PA. I did some research and I found that the Amish view thier dogs as a crop and mass produce them in puppymills. Is this true of all Amish breeders. My friends dog seems healthy. Are there any good Amish breeders around here? Do they all run puppy mills?
Answers:
YES it is very true.. They are well known to be puppymills, especially in the PA area.. Do a google on the whole thing, you'll see that it's awful. Lots of news stories about how they don't care for their animals and breed them just to make money without regard for the dog's health or anything else..

There was a puppymill busted around here not too long ago. 40 dogs left in a barn without food and water, some dead, most dying, all full of parasites.. It was one of the Amish.

We see them in town now and then... They get their horse from the slaughter house before it is killed... Then they work it to death... I maybe wouldn't say 100% of them are puppymills because that would be a ridiculous statement, obviously there is maybe maybe maybe some that aren't like that. But it is a well known fact that they are puppymills.

Pennsylvania’s moniker as the “puppy mill capitol of the East” is no secret. If the state is to shed its shameful reputation, changes to Dog Law are absolutely necessary to protect dogs being bred in terrible conditions. No reasonable person or organization would argue with this.

The breeding of dogs in Pennsylvania represents a multi-million dollar industry, so it should come as no surprise that those who have the most to lose are putting forth the biggest opposition to reform. The American Kennel Club is leading the pack in across-the-board opposition. Nipping at the their heels is the Pennsylvania Federation of Dog Clubs. Both are campaigning furiously to stop humane legislation.

A member of the Agriculture Committee, Rep. Jim Cox (R-Berks), said this about high volume breeders at a recent Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting: “They breed some dogs, find them good homes, and make a buck in the process.” His ignorance of a major problem in Pennsylvania is mind-boggling.

You have to be very careful when dealing with these people. They do not regard dogs very well and they do regard them as a profit only crop. Do your research and then decide if you really want to purchase a pup from them. They are considered puppy mills. The only difference is that they do keep their dogs clean and in good health but they also do mass produce puppies.
Also they do not do health test on their dogs.
puppy mills? i dog is a anamel like a cow or pig or checken.you don't call were they breed and live mills.nothing wrong with someone wanting to profet from dog breeding .if they are realy into it then they no more want a dog that is bad then you .stop worrying
While one could not speak for every Amish breeder, they by and large run puppy-mills where dogs are considered a product rather than as a loving companion. And, even if your dog would turn out to be healthy, its parents would continue to be a part of this really terrible process. A good breeder takes good care in placing their dogs and in breeding well.

Puppies are also available through rescue - petfinder.org.
Most likely, any puppies raised on a farm in the mid-west by Amish people indeed come from a puppy mill. That you NEVER want to support!!!
To be on the safe side, you ought to find another place to get your puppy from.
If you list what breeds you are interested in, I would gladly find a reputable breeder in New Jersey or nearby.
I went to a dog auction where the Amish were auctioning off their very scared, sick dogs and puppies. The way they were handling the animals made me feel ill. They are the Amish's cash crop. Why don't they get a f**king job instead of breeding these poor dogs to death and keeping them caged 24/7. I HATE the Amish for the way they treat the animals.
YES THEY ARE THE BIGGEST PUPPYMILLERS IN THE U.S.! Please don't buy a dog from them. I am a responsible breeder in P.A., and trust me, we as a group have been trying to do something about this horrible situation for years! If you know what breed you are looking for, go to the Breed's National Breed Parent Club website for a breeder referral, You can find the website at www.AKC.org.
Please keep in mind that AKC registration is not a guarantee of quality.
Here are some suggested questions one can use to determine if a breeder is truly responsible:

1. Is she an AKC registered breeder of good standing and an active member of her breed Parent Club?

2. Are there AKC Champions listed on the pedigree, showing that the breeder spends her time %26 money to prove the quality of her breeding stock through competition?

3. Are all the animals kept in clean, comfortable, healthy, loving circumstances?

4. Did the breeder conduct extensive interviews with you and every member of your family?

5. Have the sire %26 dam received all available health clearances, (eg. OFA Hip %26 Eye, Thyroid testing, THESE VARY FOR EACH BREED)

6. Is she willing to honestly discuss any possible genetic defects that may exist in her line?

7. Does she have a Sales Contract?

8. Does the contract contain a clause stipulating that you spay or neuter the puppy before it reaches a certain
age?

9. Does the contract contain a clause stating that if at any time in the puppy's life, you can no longer care for it, it must be returned to the breeder? (This ensures that no animal bred by this breeder will ever end up in a shelter).

10. Will the breeder maintain contact with you for the life of the puppy to answer questions and help in general?
It is true. Pennsylvania is full of puppymills owned by the Amish people. They have no regard for the puppies or the dogs, only for the money.
