I have a Boxer of 6 months, I need to know at what age do they bark at strangers and be a good watch/guard dog.
As it happens to be once a thief entered in our compound and through the window pane he took the clothes and tried to steal something but could not find anything %26 left.During all event my pet was open in the compound and did nothing, it has not identified him as stranger nor barked.
Hence need to know what to be done in this case.
Kindly suggest beside suggesting to give tranning from a professional.

hes still a baby for one thing. and for another once a dog comes to think of where he is as his home that it belongs to him then he will protect it. also the same goes for ppl once he comes to think of you as his he will protect you. hes just a little young yet to be much help in that area. also too much socialization can make a dog be alot more friendly with strangers and such. not to say that he shouldnt be socialized but too much makes a dog too trusting of strangers.
well i have a boxer/bulldog and he started barking at 7 months...its come around soo enough
Most dogs will bark to alert once they reach adulthood - it isn't the job of a teenage dog to protect its "alpha." However, some dogs just don't do this.
i have a 6 mo old male Boxer, he just recently (like in the last week) has started giving little warning barks. He will get there, he's just very young still.
My dog did it when the landscapers came the other day, but then the next day there was all sorts of noise in the front of my house (FedEx coming up to the door) and he could care less. Give him a couple months to get him going. If you want him to do that, just make sure you praise him when he starts.
As of the 6 month mark, your dog is like a 5 year old child. The dog doesn't know as of yet that it is supposed to do such a thing. As of right now it sees people as the "ones who will give me love and pet me and feed me." Think about this..the puppy lives with it's momma for about 4-6 weeks, then gets taken away from her to be weaned, then at 8-12 weeks it gets taken to your home probably..now it is only about 24 weeks so it is just getting comfortable in it's surroundings so just be patient and it will be coming along any day now.

Boxer breed dogs aren't an ideal breed as a guard dog. They just attack to defend their owners when at a very dangerous situation. This dog breed can be a good one to stay with children and play with them, but if the ownes train them by a professional they can attack by order.

I had a boxer for 9 years. She was never a good watch dog. If anyone had of broken into our house, she probably would have shown them where we kept all the good stuff
We have a Male boxer who is 10 months old. Although a lot of people think he looks like he may be mean, he is not. He is a curious dog but scared of his own shadow. The only time he barks is when he wants to play or when he has been told no (he talks back). When we go on walks he goes up to strangers and lets them pet him. Im not sure about all boxers but I dont think mine would make a very good gaurd dog but he does make a great companion.
