go to www.jefferspets.com and purchase a muzzle for your dog. They will not hurt your dog, and the dog can breath and drink water easily with it on. When your dog is aggressive put the muzzle on. when it is not take it off. I don't know why people think it is cruel yet they will use spike collars and shock collars. A muzzle is perfectly comfortable. It only saves you from being bit. I trained a 5lb yorkie with one, and works perfect. no more major aggression. and if I even see the look from her all I have to say is i am getting the muzzle. And she will go hide. For your protection and others as I was recently bit by an aggresive dog. badly, and could have sued. I would suggest you try something. a muzzle is 10.00 expert training is 100's of dollars.
You dog is aplha in your pack and sees outsiders as threats to him and his pack. You need to dominate the dog. If you are fearful of the dog yourself, you may want to consider getting rid of the dog. To dominate him push him down in a laying position and stand over him do not let him up until you walk away. when people come over to the house, spray him in the face with a squirt bottle when he rushes at them and barks. Definitely seek out a trainer as aggressive dogs can be a huge liability.
Your dog needs additional training. It sounds like he has a dominance issue as well, you have to nip this in the bud before he bites.
I would recommend getting a trainer that works with dogs with aggression issues.
Find a trainer who specializes in aggressive dogs. There are many reasons why this happens. Employ a trainer to help you. Be sure to check their references.

Make sure the visitors bow to him at his level. This creates respect for the dog. Often I find giving the dog candy helps with soothing their mood.
Your dog may be aggressive because of its breed. It sounds as though he is very dominant and is the alpha dog. I would take him in for more obedience training if you haven't already. I know that petsmart has good obedience classes and also private classes, who would be willing to work with you and your dog.
Good Luck!
